IT Parks in Pune – Hinjewadi and Magarpatta
About Pune
Pune is the seventh largest city in India. It is termed as the Detroit of India and the cultural capital of Maharashtra. Pune is the second largest city in Maharashtra, next only to Mumbai in terms of population and economic importance. From being the educational capital of Maharashtra, Pune has now also become a leading IT sector in India and a major engineering hub.
Pune is host to major IT players from India and abroad. It is home to Infosys, one of the flagship IT companies in India.
Why Pune Leads the IT Sector
The IT sector depends upon two major factors to thrive. The first one is the infrastructure and the second is qualified and skilled workforce. Pune scores on both the fronts.
Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has understood the importance of IT and the financial implications of having a booming IT sector. In collaboration with the government of Maharashtra, the PMC has offered many sops to emerging IT companies. Today, the IT infrastructure in Pune is at par with the best. Wi-fi, leased lines and broadband are easily available and are affordable. Hardware like servers, routers, etc. is readily available too.
Pune has one of the highest student populations not only in India but in Asia. An abundance of engineering colleges and IT institutes have enabled Pune to offer crème de la crème talent, something the IT industry needs. Both these factors have augured well for the growth of Pune.
What are IT Parks?
An IT Park is usually deemed to mean an integrated IT / ITES (Information Technology / Information Technology Enabled Services) facility with a minimum area of about 4 acres and above. All the offices in this premise are to be used for IT / ITES activities and have an infrastructure and other amenities as per international standards. IT Parks usually provide a plug and play facility to companies.
Prominent IT Parks in Pune
Hinjewadi IT Park
By far, the most important IT Park in Pune is the Rajeev Gandhi IT Park in Hinjewadi. To be completed in 4 phases, the Hinjewadi IT Park has transformed the village into a thriving IT hub. Builders from Pune have thronged to Hinjewadi to offer 1 BHK, 2 BHK, 3 BHK and even 4 BHK apartments and row houses. Most of the residential apartment schemes in Hinjewadi are mega projects. While Hinjewadi lies between Mumbai and Pune, the nearby Kasar Amboli lies between Pune and Hinjewadi. As the prices in Hinjewadi have skyrocketed, Kasar Amboli, which is about 30 minutes drive from both Pune and Hinjewadi, is attracting builders who are offering 2 and 3 BHK flats in Kasar Amboli.
The Hinjewadi IT Park will be developed in phases. Of the 4 proposed phases, only 2 have been completed so far. Land acquisition for the 3rd phase is underway. Once completed, the Hinjewadi IT Park will be the largest in Maharashtra, if not India.
Magarpatta IT Park
After Hinjewadi, the Magarpatta IT Park is the second largest IT Park in Pune. Like Hinjewadi, the Magarpatta IT Park too boasts of various MNC IT companies.
In addition to Hinjeadi and Magarpatta, there are quite a few private IT Parks and incubation centres in Pune too.
A few of the prominent companies in Hinjewadi / Magarpatta IT Park include TCS, Infosys, Tata Technologies, Wipro Tech Mahindra, KPIT, Persistent, Geometric, etc.
